The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the music selection.

This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track originating from the official score of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.

But for me, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
