A individual accused with stalking Kate McCann apparently recorded her a phone message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned communication data and information recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout the past two years.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported missing child cases and is still open.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

One voicemail, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I know."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I possess a life here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," the message continued.

The tribunal was told that by means of electronic messages, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who collated the information, told the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the phone records.

On October 9th, 2024, the father responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "a wrong number."

During that incident Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I will continue and I plan to establish my claim."

Court proceedings
Kate and Gerry McCann testified to the court from protected by a security measure on Wednesday

The court was informed the co-defendant established a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a visit to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in last December.

Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had contacted via messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be considered genuine in the months leading up to the appearance to that location, that area, in last December.

The court heard message exchanges between the two individuals, in last November, considering trying to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from cutlery at a eating establishment.

"We have to assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the trip to their house, the defendant sent a text which expressed: "We're currently sitting adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our lights out similar to detectives. I had hoped to do this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The proceedings continues.
