Edwards and O'Neil represent the initial names under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday after the team's ten-game winless start to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic associations to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the club leadership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton manager - who played over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club board as they begin the process of hiring a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
