The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.

An upcoming six-episode season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The previous season concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.

New Challenges for The Team

Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.

However, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details hinted.

In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."

"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."

He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

Martin Compston called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty launched in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the new season will hit screens.

The conclusion of season six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the time there were no plans for further series.

However, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
