Google to Invest $15bn to Establish AI Computing Facility in the Indian Subcontinent

AI Data Center
The Nation is a key destination for data centers owing to its affordable data rates and swiftly increasing internet user base.

Google's parent company Alphabet is set to invest $15 billion for constructing an AI computing facility in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.

The facility, that is planned in the coastal city of the city of Visakhapatnam, is set to become a segment of Google's global network of artificial intelligence hubs located in a dozen nations.

"This represents the biggest artificial intelligence center that we plan to invest in worldwide, outside of the United States of America," Google Cloud's chief executive stated at an gathering in the capital city of Delhi on Tuesday, mentioning that the financial commitment will be allocated over the next five years.

The revelation occurs when American President Donald Trump has been urging companies from the United States to focus on domestic investment.

India's Increasing Significance in AI Infrastructure

The country has emerged as a prime location for artificial intelligence facilities. India's low data costs and rapidly growing online population have established it as a hub for expansion of cloud and artificial intelligence for major tech firms.

"The infrastructure will introduce our industry-leading technology to companies and individuals in the country, speeding up AI innovation and driving growth throughout the nation," commented Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.

Specifics of the Project

A definitive arrangement to finalise the initiative is scheduled for signing on Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh government announced.

"This represents a massive leap for the digital progression of our state, progress, and worldwide position," stated the technology official Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.

The venture will merge AI and cloud systems with renewable energy systems and an broader fiber-optic system.

Andhra Pradesh's Data Center Vision

The project is part of the Andhra Pradesh government's strategy to establish six gigawatts of computing facility capacity by 2029.

Computing facilities are tangible infrastructures that accommodate the networking and computing devices that entities use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.

They feature hosting servers, storage systems and network equipment like firewalls and routers, in addition to the required energy and climate management infrastructure to run them.

Funding Benefits

In Andhra Pradesh, the government has been granting discounted land and electricity to attract worldwide funders.

Sector Expansion

The country's computing facility market has expanded quickly over the past five years, surpassing the 1GW capacity mark in the year 2024 and almost increasing threefold its capability from 2019.
